The Big Rooster was actually thrown together by a trio of aspiring singers sometime in the winter of 2005 as a way to be able to buy shirts in bulk to promote their boy band. It was by sheer coincidence that one of these guys had a palpable sense of humor and knew a designer who could turn his retarded shirt ideas into graphic reality. This actually turned out to be quite serendipitous since neither Bruce, Jimmy or David could sing or dance in tight-rolled jean shorts.
Some time later, while drowning their failed boy band sorrows is Bartles and Jaymes wine coolers,the three revisited their panache for coming up with funny shirt ideas. As the wine flowed like, well, wine so did the shirt ideas. With each new shirt idea the Big Rooster collection grew and in turn so did the sales. The site got some tweaks and a few updates here and there to keep up with demand, but it was still a little outdated. One could say it was reminiscent of the days when “Big Johnson” shirts were the Juicy Couture of America.
The group eventually split up when Jimmy followed his dream becoming a construction worker and David went to prison for blowing up his apartment while cooking meth. This left Bruce to his own devices with The Big Rooster. In December of 2009, work began on the new and improved Big Rooster site that you see today. The site was completely retooled and relaunched Jan. 1, 2010. The rest as they say, is history.
